Hexa is a line-creation block-puzzle game that has a hexagon theme. These games are often referred to as "wood-block" puzzle games, even if the blocks aren't made of wood, because the game features wood-related items. Many traditional wood-block games require a player to create and remove lines from a board using polyomino shapes made of square blocks.
This game still features blocks in unique shapes, but each individual block is a hexagon or hex that has the appearance of a glossy-cut gemstone. Instead of a 9x9, 10x10 or 11x11 wood board, it features empty hexagon indentations displayed in lines in water near the shore of a lake or pond in a densely wooded area. Above the area, the game displays two wooden plaques. The upper-left one shows the player the number of blue, non-shape gemstones available that represent money. The upper-right one shows their current score.
As with similar games, Hexa gives the player three shapes at a time below the empty spaces. The player drags shapes to these areas to eventually create horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines. They wait for the game to remove the lines and then continue the process of creating hex-based lines for as long as possible.
Hexa also provides the player with boosters. They can use their blue gemstones to rotate a shape, remove one hex from a space, or clear an area.
