Hex Aquatic Kraken is a connect-style match-3 puzzle game that uses hexagon (hex) shapes and underwater imagery for the boards and tiles instead of bubbles, wood blocks, gemstones or other objects and themes. As with similar games, it challenges a player with a certain number and type of tasks per level.
To move on to the next level at any given time, the player must complete the task or tasks by connecting three matching underwater elements to remove the tiles from the hex-shaped board. They don't need to remove all the tiles from the board. For example, they might need to reach a specific number of points or animals based on type or defeat the boss Kraken before time runs out.
When the player completes a task or tasks in Hex Aquatic Kraken, the board automatically removes the rest of the tiles. The game then awards points and up to three stars based on the player's achievements.
The game provides the player with many tips for success. It displays visual walkthroughs for specific moves. For example, when the player removes five or more connected matching tiles, the game takes out an entire row. The removal of six tiles causes a large swath of tiles to disappear. Connecting more than six tiles can cause the game to clear all tiles by color and image or the entire board.
