Blockbuster Puzzle is a block-puzzle game with a fantasy theme that includes fairies. The player's goal is to earn the most points possible by creating lines on a dark blue 8x8 grid using colorful polyomino shapes presented in sets of three on a sidebar to the right of the grid. The game assigns points when the player positions shapes on the board. It also assigns points when it removes completed 8-block row and column lines.
The player can create one line at a time or build up multiple lines and then complete them with one shape. This maneuver is referred to as a combination play. Combos help the player earn even more points! The player must move all shapes to the board before they receive another set. If they can't move a shape, they run out of moves.
Blockbuster Puzzle awards the player their final score under a golden trophy when they run out of moves. Fireworks appear on the screen, and a fairy girl claps her hands. The player then starts over to attempt to beat their last-best score, which the game displays in gold at the upper-left corner of the screen.
The game offers play in 15 different languages, including English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Korean, Japanese and Arabic.
