Butterfly Match Mastery is a connect-style tile-matching game. Against a nighttime fantasy forest scene, the player uses connect lines to match identical pairs of butterfly wings on boards of round-cornered tiles during daily challenges and levels play. The game's fantasy theme includes more than normal butterfly wings. The player must also match wings designed to look like feathers, leaves, shells and other objects.
With the challenges mode, the player selects today's game or an older one from a previous day in the current month or a month and day in the current year. With the levels mode, they play from level to level. The rules across these modes don't change. The player selects two of the same kind of wings. They can only select adjacent side-by-side or stacked matching wings and pairs separated by no more than three lines of connection across gaps or along the edges of the board. When they select a matching pair, white connection lines form between the halves, the wings merge, and a whole butterfly flies away from the playfield.
Butterfly Match Mastery is a timed game as well. The player must clear the board of all wings before a green vertical timer bar to the left of the board runs out of color. If they become stuck while trying to find matches, they use a magnifier hint button or a shuffle tiles button free up to three times to give them more options. If they run out of options entirely, auto-shuffle also kicks in.
