Watermelon Cats is a merge game in the Suika category. Instead of featuring anthropomorphic fruit, it features cat heads. Against a blue sky filled with stars, the player drops the heads into a clear container with the goal of using pair-merging mechanics to evolve the heads until they reach the final evolution, as indicated on an arrow below the container.
The heads fall straight down and roll. The player can track the next head to drop using previews displayed on the evolution line. When they successfully merge heads, they receive points at the upper-center area above the container. They also receive coins based on their score. They use the coins to purchase boosters in the shop that help them reach the last evolution faster. If they ever allow the heads to pile up to the top of the container, they must start over.
Watermelon Cats features boosters that are unique for this category of games. The player only receives three free ones for each type. One type, a slime ball, rewards triple points for the heads it removes from the container to free up space. Yet, the ball randomly bounces against the heads, which means the player doesn't get to choose the heads they don't want any longer. Additionally, they can only remove or upgrade one ball randomly. That said, they can reroll all the balls.
Free boosters don't reset if the player loses a game. The player must clear their browser's cache.
