Merge Melons is a Suika game similar to 2048 that requires the player to use their knowledge of gravity to win. The player merges halves of different types of fruit, such as limes, oranges, apples, coconuts and melons, to create other fruits until they create a whole watermelon. They also attempt to earn a high number of points or beat their last score. The game is considered extremely difficult because the fruit halves bounce and roll in ways that the player can't control. Additionally, the larger fruit halves fill up the available play space quickly.
The player drops pieces of fruit onto a wooden counter within a walled-off area. When they drop a half of a fruit onto the same type of fruit, they create a new half. For example, two orange halves create half of an apple, and two partial apples create a piece of dragon fruit. Eventually, they can merge two halves of watermelon to create a whole watermelon. They complete each merge task across levels. The game displays new tasks near the upper-left corner.
Although Merge Melons doesn't offer a preview mode that displays the next piece of fruit beforehand, it does provide three helpful boosters. The player can use a knife to cut and destroy a single piece of fruit, a weight to smash and destroy all the same fruit, and a rainbow flower that transforms into whatever fruit it touches to create an automatic merge. It's important to note that they can only use each button once during the entire game.
