Blumgi Rocket is a racing, side-scrolling platformer that features toy-style cars. A player must drive a vehicle at high speed through a variety of environments that feature complex tracks and difficult obstacles and traps. The player's primary goal on each level is to reach a finish line decorated with dark blue and white squares.
The player starts in a cold, wintry scene based on a holiday theme. They receive five presents from a Santa-style figure. The gifts contain car upgrades. It's important to note that the type of car determines the background. As the player progresses through the game, they unlock hot, summer cars and scenes as well.
Blumgi Rocket requires the player to think about real-world physics. If they're not careful with the controls, they can flip the car over because it's lightweight and then have difficulty flipping it back onto its wheels. The good news is that the game doesn't penalize the player in any way. It usually only resets a level if the vehicle careens off the screen or slides into water.
When the player reaches the finish line, they receive a slow-motion, photo finish with confetti. A helicopter than carries their car to the next level.
