Smash Karts is a multiplayer IO that features a combination of racing-kart and battle-arena elements. A player's only goal, while driving around with a rearview perspective as a cartoon cat, frog, monkey, mouse, rabbit or other animal, is to kill as many opponents as possible before a timer runs out or another player kills their character.
As they level up, the player can make changes as they earn XP and coins, including swap their character, hats, kart and other items. They can change between Free For All, Gem Collector, Capture The Flag and Hat Holder modes. They can make arena changes as well, including modifications to the round timer, team status, bot status, weapon restrictions and number of players. They can also choose between the game randomly selecting arenas and specific ones, including a graveyard, sky dropzone or pinball, a smash fort and a speedway.
The player must drive fast to keep out of range of other players' weapons and use powerups and weaponry from special boxes found throughout each arena to fight back. The game also gives them an option to earn tickets known as tokens to play a claw machine game to win prizes that can help them.
