Sky Riders is a racing game that tasks a player with honing their high-speed driving skills with motorcycles and cars on racetracks floating in the sky. The game features 30 unique tracks that include asphalt roads and loop-de-loops, dirt ramps and wire-mesh tunnels. All tracks also feature open-air gaps between sections.
The player directs a crash test dummy on the back of a motorcycle or behind the wheel of a race car forward on the track. If they perform well, they drive the vehicle into a huge, floating yellow and orange cube with the word FINISH printed on it. The cube shatters, and they move on to the next racetrack.
Any deviation to the left or right without an immediate course correction causes the dummy and vehicle to fly off the track into the sky. The player must also anticipate the correct speeds when crossing gaps or risk a bad landing on the next section of track. If either adverse event happens, they restart the level. Thankfully, the game doesn't penalize them.
Sky Riders features realistic physics. The player must accelerate and decelerate at the right times, as they would in a real-world situation, to prevent driving off the track, front-end impact damage and vehicle flipping or skidding on a section of track. The player can also use the gas and brake controls to tilt midair and perform other stunts.
