XOXO Blast is a tic-tac-toe, solved puzzle game that requires the player to use a combination of luck and strategy to win. The player must arrange a letter (red X or blue O) horizontally, vertically or diagonally three or more times to beat another player on the same device or an AI.
The player starts by selecting a grid. Traditionally, children and adults play the game on a 3x3 board created with a pencil or pen. They draw the grid and board and then use the writing instrument to add each X and O. This version offers 5x5 and 6x6 boards as well.
With the 5x5 board, the player must arrange four identical letters in a line. With the 6x6 board, they must arrange five letters. They start the game by selecting a board, a type of opponent, and a difficulty level. They can select easy, medium and hard levels based on a star system. For example, one start is an easy level.
XOXO Blast displays a board that features glowing lines that mimic old-fashioned neon tube lights used for business signs. The letters also have this vintage appearance.
The player watches the other player's actions and thinks ahead when making letter-placement decisions. They try to strategize in ways that provide them with more than one possible opportunity to win. For example, they might position letters in a way that guarantees that they can complete a line right after their opponent blocks another line.
