Run Boys is a three-dimensional racing game that offers levels-style singleplayer fun and global multiplayer competitive action. The player, via an avatar dressed in an animal costume, tries to win races that require them to direct their character to run and avoid or combat dangers.
In singleplayer mode, the player uses weapons to fight bot enemies in environments similar to dungeon-crawl games. If they win, they progress to the next level. If they fail, they must watch an advertisement to revive the avatar or give up. In multiplayer mode, they run, jump, slide and dodge other players' avatars and obstacles to avoid collisions that can cause them to rank low during a run. They might direct their avatar to run on turning cylinders, avoid pendulums made of beach balls, walk around walls that rise out of the floors, climb out of deep side pits, or slowly walk through rotating paddle wheels. If they rank high, they move on to the next round. If they fail, they're eliminated from continuing the race.
In Run Boys, the player earns golden coins that they need to pay to enter multiplayer races. They can increase their winnings with a time bonus. That said, they can also earn coins by accessing a piggy bank, opening treasure chests, and watching advertisements.
Gold and another currency, gemstones, pay for avatar clothing and other items, abilities and upgrades as well. The player can buy, for example, permanent, random talents, such as the ability to leap or provide leadership. They can also buy frost and poison spheres, shields, damage boosts, healing, and scrolls to upgrade amulets, potions, rings, socks and totems. They must watch ads to equip their avatar with many items.
