Cube Surfer is an online game where you control a Cube capable of moving at the speed of light. It has no life but can travel through time and space twice as fast as it can move through a pixel on a screen. To survive the dangers ahead, your Cube must collect Time Crystals which allow it to manipulate its velocity in favor of a different universe's timeline. If you can collect enough Time Crystals, your Cube will be able to unlock the speed of light and leave our universe behind. This is where the fun begins. Your goal is simple: accumulate as many Time Crystals as possible by collecting them without dying.
Cube Surfer doesn't have any solid goals but does have a catchy concept. There is no story to explain the workings of Cube Surfer or how your Cube was programmed by someone unknown and unseen to explore this void we call 'space'. The lack of an explanation leaves everything unexplained and forces you to find meaning within yourself as you play the game and reach for untouchable Time Crystals. However, the absence of a story makes it more intriguing to explore Cube Surfer on your own. The lack of any clear objective gives players freedom and allows them to have their fun. This sense of freedom combined with the random nature of Cube Surfer is what makes it so addicting. You never know what's around the corner or who you will come across next.
Cube Surfer is a very well-drawn game that artistically uses abstract simplicity to display the simplicity of its idea and gameplay. On looks alone, Cube Surfer could easily be considered one of the best games on Game Cube or for any other console.
