Grid Blocks is a block-puzzle game that features a unique grid element that adds a twist to traditional wood-block and similar puzzle play. The player's goal is to create lines on a grid using polyomino shapes to earn points. They receive one point per completed row or column. If they run out of empty spaces, they must manually restart the game and attempt to beat their last highest score.
The dark, grayish-black background doesn't display the grid shown on the pre-game thumbnail. Instead, the player must use white and red guidelines to find the edges of an invisible 8x8 grid.
The game displays white lines in square shapes to reveal available grid spaces. It displays red ones to reveal unusable spaces. If the player attempts to drop a shape when the red lines appear, the game tugs the shape back to its original position below the grid.
Unlike many similar games, Grid Blocks doesn't challenge the player with any other types of play beyond finding the borders of the grid and the formation of lines to earn points. There are no boosters to create more moves, missions, quests or tasks to earn additional points, or timers to race against to win.
