Templok is a block-puzzle game similar to Tetris and Wood Block Puzzle games. The player uses colorful shapes made of eight-sided blocks to create nine-block lines along rows and columns on a 9x9 mermaid- and sea-themed underwater grid. They receive points for each line. Their goals are to create as many lines as possible for as long as possible and earn the highest score.
Given the grid's size limitation, the game removes any created lines when it assigns points. The player earns the most points for finishing more than one line at a time. For example, they earn 100 extra points if they complete three lines with one strategically placed piece. The game tracks their score in a central position above the grid.
Templok provides three shapes at a time in a dashboard area below the grid. The player must use all the shapes to generate another batch of three. The game also provides a round holding area, called the holder, to the right of the dashboard to make gameplay more interesting and unique than similar games.
The player can move an unusable shape to the holder to transform it by either replacing it with a different shape or turning it in a different direction. They can also use the holder to place the shape out of the way to generate three new blocks when no more shapes remain in the dashboard.
To replace the shape or re-roll it, they use a button marked with joined up and down arrows. To turn or rotate the shape, they use a button marked with a back arrow.
