Basket Champs is a sports game that focuses on tournament-based basketball play. The player's objective is to join one of the onscreen representations of real-world teams and then beat their opponents while scoring the highest points possible.
The player selects their team from 24 countries divided into four categories (A, B, C and D). After they confirm their selection, the game shows them their Group Phase and the current stats (Team, Won, Lost and Points) for the six teams in that group.
Gameplay consists of simple free throws. The player attempts to make the first basket. The game displays a dotted green targeting arrow to help them make the shot. After they're done, their rival receives an opportunity. Whoever makes the most baskets wins the game and moves on to the next round of the tournament.
Basket Champs challenges the player by repositioning the ball midair for each throw. It sometimes slides the backboard, rim and net up and down as well. As a result, the player must readjust the targeting arrow precisely for each throw. They can direct the ball off the backboard or the rim. If they tie with their rival, the game presents a sudden-death match. The player wins if they can make the next shot.
