Sorting Sorcery is a timed sorting game. Witches, wizards and other magic users need the player's help with making their potion ingredients more organized on wooden shelves. The player must sort the mixed-up ingredients by type onto different shelves across dozens of increasingly challenging levels.
The shelves of an old, dusty cupboard covered in cobwebs hold the important ingredients every sorcerer or alchemist needs to make secret formulas, including apples and other fruits, dried plant herbs, fresh cuttings and sprigs, whole mushrooms and vials of liquors and other fluids. The shelves also hold the tools they need to produce potions and containers for storage.
The player selects items to move onto partially or completely empty shelves. They must move quickly because of a timer. With each new level, the game increases the number and type of items and adjusts the number of empty shelves. When the player does well, it rewards them with up to three stars. If they don't complete the sorting process fast enough, they lose the level and stars and must try again.
Sorting Sorcery gameplay is tricky. When the player selects a shelf of items, one item falls onto the floor. They must then select a shelf space to place that item before they can move any other items. If they start to arrange items in the wrong order and need to undo their moves, item by item, they can run out of time. When they complete a shelf, the game places a placard with a checkmark in front of the four matching items.
The game allows the player to skip a level by watching an ad video. They can also use helpful tools by watching ads.
