Mahjong Holiday is a tile-matching game with a cruise holiday vacation theme. The player must remove tiles from play areas above the waves of a canal located at a popular travel destination. The game presents each level as a striped donut-style life preserver floating in the waters.
Each of the three-dimensional ivory tiles features pictures related to the theme, such as airplanes, anchors, backpacks, blue dolphins, cameras, compasses, folded maps, historic sites, hot air balloons, lighthouses, local beverages and foods, mountains, passports, ships, suitcases, sun hats, sunglasses, travel tickets and turtles. The player must remove matching tiles in pairs. For every pair, they earn points and up to three stars. They earn the most points by matching tiles consecutively without interruptions. They earn the highest number of stars by playing as fast as possible.
Mahjong Holiday provides the player with a lot of tools to help them quickly match tiles. When the player uses the lightbulb button, it adds a shine effect to a pair of tiles. When they use the magnifier button, it highlights multiple possibilities. The cross-knives button removes two pairs automatically. The button labeled with two arrows shuffles the remaining tiles. The back arrow allows the player to undo their last move. After the first usage, the player must watch ads to continue to use these helpful tools.
