Catland Block 9x9 is a block-puzzle game. The player works to create nine-block rows, columns and 3x3 squares on a 9x9 board. They must use polyomino and other shapes made of smaller squares that display pictures of different breeds and colors of cats. The player's goal is to earn the highest score possible until they run out of moves.
The game displays the shapes on the long upper part of a hanging scroll to the left of the board. The shapes appear in this area in batches of three shapes at a time. If the player can't use the last of the available shapes, the game automatically moves the piece to the short lower part of the scroll. This is the only time it gives the player a break when they run out of moves.
The player also receives three boosters inside magic crystal balls to the right of the board. A double-arrow booster rotates one selected shape. A twisted arrows booster changes the shapes to different ones. A hammer booster removes one block of shapes. The player receives these boosters for free initially. After they use the tools, they must either buy the first two with coins or watch an ad to reuse the hammer. The game doesn't reset the boosters if the player loses.
Catland Block 9x9 rewards both points and coins. The player can track their all-time record, current points and coins along the top of the screen. They receive coins as they progress through the game via gifts. The game also rewards them with special achievements after they reach certain points levels or a points goal in a 24-hour period and if they rank in first place. It automatically unlocks achievements.
