Mahjong Royal is a tile-matching puzzle game based on classic Chinese Mahjong. The game has a forest theme and features access to the levels on wood boards. The player's primary goal is to match pairs of identical, flower and season tiles to clear patterns of layers across 63 levels. With flower- and season-related tiles, they don't need to match identical images. They merely need to match the types.
The game presents the player with a challenge or goal on each level. For example, they might need to remove all tiles before a specific amount of time passes. When they do well, they receive coins that they can use to buy tools that make playing easier. They can use an undo button that reverses the last move, a shuffle button that rearranges the tiles, a hint button that reveals a pair, and a lucky charm button that displays all available tile pairs for 30 seconds.
In Mahjong Royal, the player can only remove uncovered tiles that aren't between other tiles. They must remove top-layer tiles to reveal the bottom layers. If necessary, they can use the shuffle button to free up additional tiles to select matching pairs.
The player can also change the colors of the tiles. On the main screen, they can use the green left and right arrows to switch to different color options.
