Mahjong Pyramids is a timed Chinese Mahjong tile-matching game with an Ancient Egypt theme. The player's goal is to remove pairs of tiles from a playfield that features an Egyptian desert near pyramids, palm trees, people on camels, and columns marked with hieroglyphics.
The tiles feature a variety of related images, including a black Bastet cat statue, three pyramids, two keys, the symbol of Ra, animal-shaped jewelry, wrapped mummies, closed chests and golden coins. When the player selects a pair of matching tiles, sparkling diamond-style stars appear on the screen.
A horizontal green timer bar next to an hourglass icon near the top-left corner counts down throughout play. The game attempts to help the player by offering intermittent tool buttons that appear and disappear randomly, including an Auto button that removes one pair of matching tiles and a button marked with a stopwatch and + sign that adds a few seconds of more time to the timer.
Mahjong Pyramids increases the number of tiles with each new level. It also features a white glove with a bendy pointer finger instead of a cursor. The movement of the finger makes it difficult for a player to accurately select tiles.
Thankfully, if the player runs out of moves, the game resets the remaining tiles so the player can try again. The player can also use a free double-arrow button to reshuffle the tiles into a new arrangement.
