Crocword is a word puzzle game that shares a similar framework with classic crossword puzzle games, except that it doesn't offer any clues. The player accepts a challenge from Professor of Words Science (Ph.D.) Croc, to guess as many hidden words as possible. Their goal in each level is to fill in empty spaces on a grassy area between bushes based on the specific letters found in a shadowy circle below the crossed lines of empty spaces.
The player can select each letter to create a word or draw connect-style lines between letters. With the former option, they must confirm their selection. With the latter option, the game automatically loads the correct word into the spaces. It places extra, valid words in a treasure chest. If the player guesses 10 of these words, the game rewards them with coins. It also gives them coins found in one or more empty spaces and coin winnings at the end of each level.
Crocword offers the player two helpful tools. It supplies a hint tool labeled with a light bulb that adds a letter tile to one of the empty spaces. The player can use their coins to pay for hints. It also provides them with a shuffle tool labeled with two curved arrows that rearranges letters within the circle to make guessing easier.
