Words from Words is a word-search game. The player creates words using letters from a word that the game gives them. If they do well, they receive stars, in-game currency and other rewards.
The game offers stunning backgrounds of outdoor scenes, including a boat floating in a pond among waterlily pads, the interior of a home at gift-giving time during the winter holiday season, snow-covered daytime and nighttime vistas, and a spooky castle in the woods. The player receives access to several backgrounds free. They must successfully progress through a certain number of puzzle levels to unlock additional ones.
Each level displays a list of empty white spaces across several columns that represent the letters of potential words and a word made of round-cornered letter tiles. The player must search the letters of the word to create other words to place in the empty spaces. They receive stars as they progress through the level (i.e., 1 star at 33% progress, 2 stars at 66% progress and 3 stars final). They can only move onto the next level of the game when they create at least 33% of the needed words.
Words from Words has a hints tool. When the player uses the hint button, the game creates one word. If the player needs more hints, they can use their currency to buy 10, 50, 100 or 250 hints. They can also pay to turn off advertisements. This last part is helpful because the game penalizes the player with an ad any time they make a mistake.
