The Chess: A Clash of Kings is a virtual board game that simulates chess via a classic checkered board on a wooden tabletop. The player's goal is to perform a checkmate by capturing the King, which means preventing the piece from performing any more moves while in check.
The game offers three modes (Classic AI, Classic 2P and Special 2P). In Classic mode, the player always plays the white pieces and makes the first move. In the Special mode, the game randomly destroys the center square, and neither player can use it. They can only jump around it with a Knight. If a King is in the square when the destruction happens, the game ends with a stalemate. Failing to win a piece within 100 moves and failing to check a King with no moves remaining anywhere on the board also result in a stalemate.
The Chess gives each player exactly one minute to make a move. They can monitor the time in an area to the right of the board. The game also provides the player with several tools to help them win. They can review the moves for every piece in a Help area using the Settings button on the home screen. They can also turn on a guide that displays the available moves of a selected piece by highlighting the squares with yellow blocks.
