Sea of Words is an educational word-puzzle game with a connect-style, line-drawing element. The player learns about marine life and the world when they create words by linking letter tiles across levels.
With each success, the player arrives one step closer to unlocking new sea life. They also eventually unlock customizable aquariums that feature different types of fish, architectural structures from various countries (i.e., Africa, England, Greece, France, Japan and Russia) and unique objects (i.e., a circus tent, a farm barn, and a pirate ship).�
On each level, the player receives empty, round-cornered white spaces near the top of the playfield that represent the letters of words. They also receive a ring that contains multiple, round letter tiles. To complete words, they draw a blue line across the tiles in the correct sequence. If they have difficulty figuring out a word, they select the double-curved arrows at the center of the ring to shuffle the tiles. When they connect the letters, the tiles turn pink. The new words appear as green tiles with white letters in the empty spaces.
Sea of Words gives the player multiple tools for guessing words, including an octopus hint button that reveals the most frequent letter, a seahorse button that reveals one random letter, and a watch-ads button that reveals a random letter. The game provides the player with coin winnings and daily slot machine bonuses to pay for additional hints and purchase aquarium items.
The player can earn bonus coins any time they use the game's dictionary to learn the meanings of newly created words. They also earn pink seashells to use as aquarium currency every time they unlock new sea life.
