Monstertopia is a connect-style tile-matching game that features anthropomorphic blue, green, purple, red and yellow blocks. The player's goal is to earn 108 blue stars across 36 levels displayed as houses on a winding path through a forest and across a stream.
The player receives points for every monster block that they remove from a board made of seven rows of 35 blocks. They must earn a specific number of points per level before time runs out to earn the blue stars. For example, in Level 1, they must earn 500 points for one star, 750 points for two stars, and 1,000 points for three stars. They have only one minute to achieve the highest possible score. They earn the most points if they connect a long chain of blocks instead of only two or three at a time.
Monsteropia allows the player to make horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines to connect two or more blocks. It challenges the player by increasing the number of points they must earn per level to reach a specific number of stars. That said, the game also increases the amount of time the player has to achieve their goal. If the player doesn't earn all three blue stars in a level, they can retry for free.
