Mahjong at Home: Christmas Edition is a Mahjong tile-matching puzzle game that features Christmas and other winter holiday elements. The game starts with a calendar that counts down the days until Christmas. The player must clear Mahjong tiles from a gradient purple and red snowflake-patterned backdrop each day to unlock all patterns and categories. The game offers multiple patterns in 10 categories (Plants, Buildings, Pyramids, Animals, Symbols, Zodiac, Letters, Classic, Things and Forms).
The white round-cornered tiles display traditional Mahjong bamboo, characters, dots or stones, dragons, flowers and seasons. The layered tile patterns also display a mix of traditional and other themes. The player can only remove uncovered tiles in pairs that have at least one left or right side open. All tile pairs must match, except for flowers and seasons. The player can select and match any tiles within those categories by color. The game tracks the time it takes for the player to complete their task, the current number of tiles on the field at any given time, and the number of available open-pair matches along the top of the screen.
Mahjong at Home: Christmas Edition offers the player three hints via a magnifying glass tool. Once the player uses the hints, which highlight pairs with green, they must watch an ad video to earn additional ones. The player can also select any covered tiles hidden in shadows to prompt the game to shine a spotlight on the uncovered ones.
If the player runs out of available pairs, the game auto-shuffles the rest of the tiles to reveal new ones. When the player clears away a pattern, the game marks the date on the calendar with a green checkmark.
