Room Makeover is a home renovation game that tasks a player with cleaning and remodeling a recently purchased fixer-upper property. The house needs a lot of love. The player must clean out any debris they find and restore or replace materials and furniture.
The home has four main rooms (bedroom, bathroom, living room and kitchen) and a garden area that serve as the game's levels. The player must remodel a room before they can unlock the next area of the house. They start in the bedroom.
The game supplies them with a hint button labeled with a broom icon that initially assists by pointing out debris that they need to throw in a nearby trash can. Once they've handled the easy part of the mess, they must use the tools on the left pop-out toolbar to finish the job. For example, they might use a sponge to scrub crayon marks, stains and mold; a broom to remove cobwebs; a mop to soak up water puddles; and a paint roller to brighten walls. They use a hammer to repair holes and broken objects.
Room Makeover shows the player's progress in a room as a horizontal bar to the left of the hint button that fills with a golden light. The game also displays a golden star in an area of a room when the player completes it.
