Give an injured girl a critical makeover!
Doc Darling: Bone Surgery is a makeover game with a surgery theme. The player helps a surgeon, Doc Darling, perform surgery on a little girl who slammed her scooter into a tree when trying to not run over a cat on the road.
The game is semi-graphic and should be played with an adult if the player is a young child. That said, it's beneficial because it provides the player with basic, educational exposure to some of the injuries and tools a patient and their surgeon might deal with after this type of accident.
The player performs the tasks over six levels. As part of an achievement structure, they must clean the girl to remove dirt, sterilize her skin, clean away blood and use an anesthetic in a syringe to put her to sleep. Although extremely medically inaccurate, they must also use frozen meat to reduce tissue swelling.
The game does more than show the bone breaks on x-rays, for example. It attempts to make the process fun. For example, it makes the player play a ladder game to fix her ribs, complete a puzzle to restore the positioning of the cartilage in her nose and grab healthy, anthropomorphic teeth off a conveyor belt to restore her missing and broken ones.
In the final task, the player must finish post-op rehabilitation by helping the girl with a makeover that includes a new hair color and style, shirt, skirt or shorts, dress, shoes and eye color.
