The player drives around the city. The game gives them tasks to complete, such as chasing suspects and picking up donuts at checkpoints. In some cases, the player must complete these tasks before time runs out. They might need to collect packages, complete jumps or time trials, or wreck their vehicle or other vehicles a specific number of times.
The player uses a mini-map near the bottom-left corner to see the real-time locations of everything near their cruiser. For example, white lines represent streets. The white triangle represents their vehicle. A suspect is a red dot. Donuts are pink dots. The game helps them with tasks as well. For example, it supplies floating icons that offer total repairs and nitro refills.
Police Pursuit 2 supplies amazing crash sequences. The player can cause realistic damage to other vehicles. They can also use their vehicle to knock over light poles and overturn dumpsters. They can even destroy the cruiser. When this happens, it catches fire and eventually explodes.
