Girl Surfer 3D is a racing game set in three-dimensional water park areas where characters swim, surf and use watercraft. A girl on skis pulled behind a jet ski needs help maneuvering the waves. The player guides her through vertical hanging gold coins to collect the coins. They also help her rescue other girls stuck in the water and maneuver around a variety of obstacles.
Any swimmers rescued by the player join the surfer behind the jet ski to create a pyramid. The player must then help these characters perform the main tasks of collecting more coins, rescuing more girls and preventing crashes into boulders and other objects.
As with similar racing and rushing games, such as stickman and pencil rush games, Girl Surfer 3D features a multiplier track at the end of the run. The jet ski races up a ramp and tosses the girls into the air and down the multiplier track. The area where the girls land in the water on the track alters the player's level of success.
The game also offers an opportunity for the player to increase the amount of gold coins they collect and later use to buy skins that upgrade the girl's appearance. They merely need to watch an advertisement. They can also try on new skins by watching ads.
