Dream Pet Link 2 is a timed, connect-style matching puzzle game. It challenges a player to match pairs of wood blocks to clear a grid-style board across Easy and Hard modes. The blocks feature a wide selection of baby pets and other animals, including beavers, crabs, deer, dinosaurs, flamingoes, frogs, foxes, lions, mice, octopuses, owls, pandas, polar bears, seals, snakes, snails, squirrels, whales, woodpeckers and zebras. The Easy mode features fewer blocks than the Hard one.
The player receives 10 points per pair of blocks. If they complete a puzzle successfully, they receive a total score and a time bonus score. They can only match blocks that connect with less than four lines between them. As a result, the player must only connect side-by-side matching animals and ones along the same puzzle edge.
It's important to note that the game doesn't hold back the challenging play in Easy mode. The rules change with every level. For example, the wood blocks might move left, right, up or down at any point during the game, which makes it harder to gauge the location of pairs.
Dream Pet Link 2 doesn't feature a shuffle button like many similar games. That said, the timer runs a lot slower than many games. The player also receives a specific number of hints via a search magnifying glass icon to the right of the horizontal timer bar. If they run out of hints, they can earn more by watching advertisements. They also receive hints after they finish a level successfully.
