Car Crash is a semi-realistic, three-dimensional driving game with crash and race elements. The player must destroy other vehicles and property and earn enough points to win the coins needed to upgrade cars and crash zones.
The game awards points for the time spent in a zone, the maximum speed achieved during crashes, the strongest blows and the extent of damage in each zone. It features 10 zones (Crash Test, Freedom Park, Derby, Crusher, Race, Dump, Hammer, Curler, Springboard and Darts). The player can test expected damage by shooting yellow balls at the vehicle options before making a new car selection.
The player earns the most points by crashing fast and hard into things, such as test walls, park benches and light poles, and watching advertisements. The gameplay ends if the player's car receives enough damage to make it billow black smoke and catch fire or if the test dummy driver experiences damage.
Car Crash offers several hidden rules and play options. For example, most zones float in a white abyss. If the player drives off the edge of a zone, they lose all accumulated points and must start the level over.
That said, some zones feature more than one play area. In Derby, for example, the player faces an AI opponent in a circular arena with a seemingly insurmountable curved track. If they drive over the top of the track's upper edge, their vehicle falls through the air and down to a green, forested secondary zone.
