Black Friday Mahjong is a tile-matching game that uses popular Mahjong elements to celebrate sales and shopping. The player's only goal across 40 levels is to remove layers of tiles that depict products commonly purchased on the popular after-Thanksgiving sales day from a playfield before time run out. The products include a backpack, camera, coffee maker, dresser, game controller, handheld game, jacket, microwave, swimsuit, piano, purse, smartphone, toaster and wristwatch.
Unlike classic Mahjong, the size and shape of the tiles vary. The game displays small and large squares and thin and wide, horizontal and vertical rectangles. It also displays more than one copy of a product picture on a tile. For example, it might display two coffee makers on a narrow, vertical tile and then a third one on a second small, square tile. The player can select and remove tiles of different sizes and shapes.
Black Friday Mahjong provides many tools to help the player. They can use a yellow button marked with a light bulb located on the left side of the screen to receive hints. They can use a blue button marked with two crossed arrows to shuffle the tiles. The game also automatically reshuffles tiles if no moves remain without decreasing the manual reshuffle count. Lastly, it changes the background on each tile based on the tile's status. It makes the background of unusable tiles blue, usable ones white and selected ones yellow.
