Triple Mahjong is an online version of the classic Chinese tile-matching puzzle game with a match-3 twist. Although the game refers to most of the tiles as "stones," the patterns displayed on a playfield are made of mixed and layered ivory-colored tiles that display bamboo sticks and dots. Some tiles also feature flower and seasonal markings. The player can match any of the latter tiles with a non-matching tile from the same category.
The player doesn't remove pairs of Mahjong tiles, which is the common method of play for the classic game. As the title makes clear, this game is about matching and removing three identical tiles.
The game features 40 patterns referred to as levels against a gradient, dark blue, flower-themed background. The player has 7 minutes to solve each puzzle. They're not allowed to access covered tiles or any tile surrounded on all sides. They can only select "free" unlayered tiles with a left or right side unattached to any other tile. During selection, a tile turns blueish-purple. They also receive access to a hint tool to highlight available matching tiles and a shuffle tool to bring tiles covered by layers to the top of the pattern surface.
Triple Mahjong allows the player to go full-screen with a small button at the top-left corner. It also provides high-score leaderboards that display the ranks and scores of players from around the world. Categories include Today, Last Week, Last Month, All Time and My Scores.
