Tangled Knots is a casual logic-puzzle game that features strategy gameplay and popping sounds that reduce stress and provide satisfying sensations similar to ASMR and Pop-It games. The player's main objective is to untangle stretchy strings that connect to holes in a board via round rubber or silicone connections that make a popping sound when repositioned into empty holes. When the player masters the untangling process, the game automatically pulls the strings into the holes until the pieces disappear from the screen. It also celebrates the success with a burst of confetti.
The game makes the challenge of untangling the strings more difficult as the levels progress by increasing the number of strings and the amount of entanglement. The strings might wrap several times around other strings or connect to the board with only a few empty holes available. Thankfully, the game frees up a space every time the player untangles a string by automatically removing it from the board instead of waiting until the player completes the untangling process for all of the strings.
Tangled Knots isn't a timed game. As a result, the player has as much time as they need to consider all of the twists, loops and other ways the game tangles strings on a particular level.
It's important to note that this game can also potentially help improve a player's hand-eye coordination and fine motor control, in addition to their problem-solving skills.
