Summer Story, sometimes known as Summer Story: Bubble Shooter!, is a home and landscape renovation game that uses bubble-popping as a mechanism to pay for demolition, construction, repair, and decorating services. A young woman named Kate inherited a country mansion estate on an island from her uncle. She and her cat, Snowflake, need the player's help to renovate different areas of the run-down property (i.e., a park, both floors of the mansion, and the island). The player can only update the property if they earn glittery, pink currency stars by popping bubbles, freeing young birds trapped in bubbles, and performing other tasks in bubble-shooter side games.
In those games, the player uses a floating two-projectile ring shooter to fire colored bubbles at various patterns hanging in an outdoor area. They direct each shot with a color-matched laser line that features a clear targeting bubble at the end of the line. When they shoot a projectile at two or more linked bubbles, the game releases all three pieces into a swirling blue whirlpool below the shooter.�
Summer Story rewards the player with coins and a pink star after they complete their task. It then returns them to the renovation screen. Besides performing renovations, they can also use a Mail option to collect achievement bonuses to add to their currency.
After they pay for an action related to the renovation, they can speed up the time it takes for free. They can also select construction options, such as different types of floor tiles and even water fountains. If they don't like a selection, they can use a swap button and coins to pay for a different one.
