Red Ball 4: Vol. 2 (Deep Forest) is the second chapter of the five-chapter Red Ball 4 story that started in Vol.1 (Green Hills) with an attack against Red Ball's people by a race known as the Gray Cubes. In this side-scroller, a player helps Red Ball roll and bounce through different landscapes to fight the enemy.
Vol. 2 marks the next phase of the battle. It takes place in a forest where the Gray Cubes have started a logging operation. Red Ball must defeat ninja cubes and the Ninja Boss to stop the logging and reach the factory where the Gray Cubes are transforming red balls into cube monsters and soldiers.
The player directs Red Ball along paths at ground level, across stumps, rope bridges, seesaws and swinging platforms, down long wooden ramps, up sliding ledges and through cut out sections of trees. They must use buttons to raise metal posts to unblock certain areas. They must also contend with various threats, including serrated buzzsaw blades, pools of water and large logs.
Red Ball 4: Vol. 2 continues to reward the player with silver or gold medals for collecting stars on the path through the forest.
