Like its successor, Super Mario Maker 2 online is a 2019 side-scrolling online game where the players come up with their courses using the assets that have been made available from the Super Mario Series and post them for other players to enjoy. The game was developed and published for the Nintendo Switch by Nintendo.
Its gameplay is primarily borrowed from its predecessor, where players create their custom courses and share them online. This new game has born some new introductionsnew level assets and a single-player story mode.
Players can pick from a pool of prior super Mario game series when creating their courses. These prior game series include Super Mario Bros, Super Mario World, Super Mario Bros. 3, New Super Mario Bros. U, and the new Super Mario 3D World theme.
Like other Nintendo game series, this new game has attracted millions of positive reviews. The game has received a lot of praises from its diehards across the globe. Some of the positive reviews of the additions include its user interface, music, and course editing tools. On the flip side, some critics have complained of issues with online multiplayer mode. With over seven million copies shipped as of April 2021, the game stands among the best sought-after games on the Nintendo Switch.
As earlier stated, the players create their courses that they share online for others to enjoy. However, this sequel adds an array of tools and assets, including course themes and assets borrowed from Super Mario 3D World.
Its theme is also different from the preceding four, with a lot of gameplay mechanics and features unique to it. Owing to this difference, the course of the new style game has to be reset to fit the new mechanics.
The game also comes with a new vertical course feature allowing the creators to the height limit. Additionally, it brings on board local as well as multiplayer modes. These modes enable co-op course creation where two players can create stages simultaneously and allow up to four players to compete online simultaneously.
