Mahjong, also known as Arkadium Mahjong and Mahjongg Solitaire, is a popular online timed version of the 19th-century Chinese tile-matching game of the same name. The player's goal is to earn points while clearing a gradient green tabletop of layers of stacked tiles. They can only remove the tiles by matching two of the same type at a time.
This version of the game features all of the classic emblems displayed in the historic sets, including stones, characters, bamboos, dragons, seasons and flowers. With the latter two categories, the player can match any uncovered tiles within the set instead of identical ones, as long as a tile isn't between two tiles. For example, they can match an available uncovered spring with winter or summer with fall. The game displays the two sets with non-ivory highlight colors (blue for seasons and green for flowers). When the player attempts to make a match, it highlights the first selected tile with a yellow border.
Mahjong displays the number of available matches at any time, a 10-minute timer, the score and the number of remaining tiles along the top of the screen. It offers unlimited hints via a Hint button at the lower-right corner. When the player selects this option, bright pink appears around two matching tiles.
If the player runs out of matching tiles based on an image or category, the game ends.
