Kitchen Mahjong: Classic is a tile-matching game that features classic Mahjong and connect elements. The player matches pairs of tiles that feature a kitchen theme. Their goals are to remove all tiles from the field and earn the highest points and star levels possible.
The game runs on timers, which means that the player typically has eight minutes or less to clear the field. The tiles each feature common kitchen items, such as ceramic mugs, coffee carafes, cupcake pans, cutting boards, flour sifters, hand mixers, heart-shaped cake pans, juice cups, measuring scales, meat cleavers, metal tongs, mixing bowls, pie plates, rice cookers, round skillets, serving plates, soup ladles, tea kettles, tea cups, and wire whisks.
The player must remove these pieces using connect rules, which means that they can't connect tiles with more than three lines. They must also stay within two 90-degree angles created by those lines. That said, unlike many similar games, Kitchen Mahjong: Classic allows the player to perform a rare diagonal line move, as long as the line crosses empty spaces between the tiles.
Although each level features more or less time with the same high number of tiles, every match adds an extra second or two to the timer. The game also removes three sets of tiles for free via a blue button marked with a white light bulb icon.
