Highway Road Racing is a realistic, three-dimensional driving game with a highway and street racing theme. The player attempts to drive as far as possible on busy highways in the Grand Canyon, Santa Monica and Bryce Canyon across three modes (One Way, Two Way and Time Attack).
The player receives access to 1,000 coins from the start. They also receive a base vehicle that they can upgrade with the coins. It has unique capabilities in terms of speed, handling and braking. The player can only upgrade one or two areas with their startup money. Over time, as they increase the coins, they can perform many upgrades to the tires, engine, steering wheel and brakes. They can also add a flashing police light bar and nitro. Additionally, they can eventually upgrade the car to one of 12 other vehicle priced between 5,000 and 100,000 coins.
In Highway Road Racing, the player must attempt to earn their best score possible with each race through increasingly congested traffic conditions. The game tracks the vehicle's speed and distance. After the player inevitably crashes their vehicle, they win coins based on their final total distance, any near misses and distances while traveling above 100 kmph or in the opposite direction of the rest of traffic.
