Cross Stitch is an arts-and-crafts game that focuses on painting that simulates cross-stitch embroidery using a classic paint-by-number arrangement. The game features 50 free and ad-supported patterns across three collections (Collection 1, Christmas and Collection 2) that include people, animals, foods, landscapes and holiday and fictional characters and scenes.
Every pattern displays labeled grid cells similar to actual cross-stitch patterns. The player's task is to paint the cells with matching, labeled colors displayed along the bottom of the screen. The multi-shade gray pattern stands out against an otherwise off-white canvas. The player can use the hand icon near the bottom left corner to reposition the pattern on it.
The player uses the nearby pencil icon to turn on the option to select colors. To paint with cross-stitch thread, they select a color and then the unpainted cells that display matching labels. To make out difficult-to-see labels, they use zoom in (+) and zoom out (-) magnifiers at bottom right corner.
Cross Stitch allows the player to work without the black lines of the grid by selecting a hashtag icon near the top right corner. If the player paints the wrong cell, it changes color, but the label remains. They can then correct the error by painting the cell with the correct color.
