Unpuzzle 2 is a tiling-puzzle game with a twist. The goal is to remove all connected or unconnected puzzle pieces from the field. The game shares similarities with stacked block and cube puzzles. That said, instead of sliding blocks or cubes from a stack or removing pieces in pairs, the player must slide flat jigsaw-style pieces away from completed puzzles. The game challenges the player by forcing them to think in three dimensions while looking at a semi-two-dimensional field of play.
The puzzle pieces float slightly above the field in a jigsaw-puzzle layout. The player can only remove pieces in specific directions. For example, they can remove a square without any cut sides in any direction. They can only remove an edge piece connected to another piece if they slide it in a direction that would naturally disconnect it.
The player can't move a piece in a way that the tab in the slot at the interlocking point would knock against the side of the slot. They can only slide the tab in the direction that would pull it effortlessly from the slot. They also can't easily slide a piece with more than one interlocking point. They must remove a piece and then wait for the game to transform any pieces previously connected to it into smooth-edged pieces.
Unpuzzle 2 also features surface patterns and timed play that can make the game harder. The player must pay attention to the direction of a pattern to slide it away without interlocking points on the pattern causing difficulties. They must also look at the hamburger menu bar with each new level to check for a timer.
