Patchworkz! X-maz! is a tiling-puzzle game with jigsaw elements and a Christmas and winter holiday quilting theme. The player's goal is to complete quilt designs with provided scrap patches of fabric during self-play and competitive rounds. The game tracks their score, bonus score, level score and overall rating. Quilt scenes include Santa carrying a bag of gifts, a fireplace and stockings, a teddy bear with a bow, a giant snowflake, and a decorated tree.
The game randomly assigns the player to a standalone or competitive level. No matter the challenge, the quilt appears near the upper-left side of the screen, with pieces of fabric below it. The pieces are deceptively small until the player picks each one up. If a piece is larger than pictured, the game automatically resizes it. If the player competes against another player, they can track the other person's progress and receive hints about how to place pieces by checking a picture-in-picture view near the upper-right corner.
Patchworkz! X-mas! never penalizes the player by forcing them to start over or pay a penalty. The pieces align on each design with ease. As long as the player checks the borders of the edges to match similar lines and the colors of the fabric, they can easily place piece after piece.
The player should always consider mirror sections when placing pieces. For example, they might check the shapes and colors of fabric patches on one side of a teddy bear and look for similar shapes and colors for the opposite matching side.
