Mahjong Solitaire: World Tour is a tile-matching puzzle game with a travel theme that takes place over dozens of levels. The levels are: Levels 116 (Paris, France), Levels 1732 (Guilin, China), Levels 3348 (Rio, Brazil), Levels 4964 (Tokyo, Japan), Levels 6580 (Venice, Italy), and Levels 8196 (Las Vegas, U.S.). The player must remove layers of tiles based on the rules of Chinese Mahjong from each level's playfield. They can only perform this task by selecting two matching tiles at a time. They can't unlock new region levels until they complete a region.
The game displays both traditional (bamboo, dots, dragons and flowers) and nontraditional (anthropomorphic rabbits performing various tasks) tiles against an anime-style image of a part of the real-world city with a fuzzy, unfocused bokeh view. The player can only pair "free" tiles that aren't attached to other tiles on the left or right sides. The game highlights these tiles to make it easier for the player to find and select pairs.
Mahjong Solitaire: World Tour offers a rare Mahjong game treat. The player wins coins during each round. They can use the money to purchase boosters that clear a playfield faster. The boosters include a magnet that pulls tiles away from the field, a fireworks rocket that blasts away some tiles, a flashlight that shines on an available pair, and a shuffle button that rearranges the tiles to reveal hidden pairs. The game also zooms in near the end of a level to make the final larger tiles easier to see.
