Connect 2 is a tile-matching game that features connect-line mechanics. The game displays a field with 120 mixed purplish-blue tiles arranged in rows and columns. Each tile features an image. The first level or stage displays icons that represent cookware, including cake and muffin pans, electric cookers, graters, pots, spatulas, spoons, teakettles and woks. Each stage features 20 to 30 unique icons.
The player's primary goal is to remove all tiles from the playfield to earn points and reveal one of six stunning photographs presented across the six stages of the game. They can only remove one pair of matching tiles at a time. They must work quickly to beat a timer that lasts no more than four minutes. They lose the game if they run out of time or moves.
The player can't remove any pairs of tiles unless the tiles rest side by side or an empty space exists between them. The connect rules require that a path have no more than three lines connecting the tiles. If a match is a good one, the game displays white connecting lines.
Connect 2 displays the timer at the upper-left corner with the level number to the right of it. To the right of the level number, it provides a hint tool that allows the player to use up to three hints per stage. The bottom-left corner displays the number of tiles remaining at any time and the score.
The game has no tile shuffle button. Additionally, it penalizes the player for selecting non-matching tiles. If a player selects the wrong pair, they lose 10 seconds on the clock. They gain 10 seconds for every correct one.
