Basketball Fever is a skill- and penalty-based sports game with a shooting hoops theme. The player attempts to earn points for as long as possible via various types of basketball play (i.e., free throws and trick shots).
The game presents the ball on a basketball court in front of a crowd. The game waits for the player to direct the ball's trajectory toward a hovering backboard. With every successful shot through a hoop and net, the player earns one or more points, which the game displays at the upper-left corner. The backboard features a black digital display that shows options to earn multiplier points.
Basketball Fever features gold-star rewards as well. When the player makes a shot that drops the ball through the net and a floating star beneath it, they collect that star. They can collect three stars in total. That said, the game also makes these and other shots extremely difficult by changing the position of the backboard between shots or making it move during an attempt.
If the player misses at any point, they must start over or earn an extra ball by watching an ad video. The game displays their best score. If they start over, they attempt to beat it. If they use the extra ball, they continue to increase their current score.
