Five Nights at Freddy's 2 is the next game in the survivor-horror, logic-puzzle series commonly known as FNaF. Freddy Fazbear's Pizza needs a new employee to work as a security guard from midnight to 6 a.m. during its grand re-opening at a different location.
The family-oriented restaurant company has learned that its old and new animatronics wander around at night because they interpret any lack of activity as a prompt to search for people and a party. The robots also received a criminal database programming update that makes them constantly check for intruders. According to the guy on the phone, the previous night guard asked for a transfer to the day shift. If the player does well, they can ask for the same. That said, they must first make it through each night.
The security office has open doorways and air vents, which the robots can use to enter the area. The player receives unlimited power to turn on office lights and check security cameras. They also receive a battery-operated flashlight and an animatronic mask. Different items make different robots leave the office. For example, if the player uses the face mask, they make some robots think that the guard is one of them. The player must figure out the pattern and use items at the exact right moments.
FNaF 2 makes the attacks more frequent and difficult to anticipate from night to night over the course of the week. The game also includes hidden minigames that explain more about the story. To attempt to find these games, the player must experience a jump scare and allow their character to die.
