Button Puzzle is a unique pixelated platformer that requires a player to use on-screen buttons to direct the movement of a cushiony, round object. The player's goal is to collect floating blue diamonds and direct the object to a portal with a closed black door at the end of each level. When they help the object reach its objective, the door opens and the object slides through it to the next level.
The game is set in a nighttime world that features difficult-to-see structures commonly found in platformers, such as tiered levels and walls. It also includes common deadly traps, such as ground and ceiling spikes. If the player allows the object to hit any trap, they must restart the entire level.
Unlike many platformers, the player can only control the object using on-screen buttons. They can't control it with keyboard key strokes or by clicking or tapping anywhere on the screen via a mouse or touch surface. The game displays the buttons below a scene (i.e., Left, Right, Jump, Gravity and Dash). It reveals new options over time.
Button Puzzle doesn't allow the player to use a button that counteracts the action directed by a different button. For example, if the player selects Right, they must stop the right-sliding action by selecting the Right button a second time before they can use the Left button to direct the object to slide left.
That said, the player can combine actions. For example, they can select Left and Jump at the same time to make the object jump and leap left onto an upper-level spot.
