Lines 98 is a logic-puzzle game that features elements of block-puzzle play. On a 9x9 gray grid floating against a black background, the player attempts to reposition five or more identical colored balls into horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines.
The game also features digital elements. It displays the number of balls near the upper-left corner, the mode at the upper center, and the score at the upper-right corner with retro blue digital characters. The player can undo their last move using a digital undo option near the lower-left corner. They can reset the entire game using the reset text near the lower-right corner.
Lines 98 requires the player to move balls along open paths to form lines. The player can only use non-diagonal paths. The game also challenges the player by introducing up to three new balls in random spots on the board after each move. That said, it also gives the player a preview by placing small balls on those spaces.
If the player runs out of moves, the game automatically resets the board.
